Using the model from America's Run for the Fallen 6,000 mile tribute, Honor and Remember Inc. has established the North Carolina Run for the Fallen. It is a compilation of runners and support crew whose mission is clear and simple: To run specific miles for every North Carolina service member killed as a result in serving during the War on Terror including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. Each mile of sweat and pain and each flag saluted, is to pay homage to one service member's life and their family.
The second weekend of May, we run across North Carolina to raise awareness for the lives of those who fought and died, to rejuvenate their memories and keep their spirits alive and to aid in the healing process for the North Carolina residents whose lives have been affected by the war.
We are dedicated to Honor and Remember as we blaze a 127 mile tribute trail from Fort Liberty to Camp Lejeune. One Mission ~ One Team ~ One Tribute.
Although we visibly run one marker to honor and remember each fallen hero from the current conflicts, the total run to Camp Lejeune represents every service member from North Carolina who laid down their lives for freedom's cause. Thousands have sacrificed to preserve our way of life. And we give tribute to each contemporary hero we remember others who have given the ultimate sacrifice throughout history.
Regardless of war or conflict, branch of service or method of death, we ultimately run for them all, honoring their service and sacrifice, and remembering that they each gave up a future so that we could have ours. We give tribute to them by name wherever possible and to the sacrifice of the families they left behind.
